Muchas gracias!

These are the Top 10 Anglicisms that I use:
10. Troca – Truck. In reality one should say camioneta, but I grew up in Texas and a lot of people here, well, we just say troca.
9. Yarda – Yard. As in your lawn. The correct word in Spanish is patio. Although I’ve never been comfortable with saying voy a cortar el patio. It just sounds funny to me.,....

going round the yards
Literally. As I mentioned in the discussion, it seems to refer to going round the yards of people's houses looking for scraps from the trash. In the UK it is known as "bin raking", but there is probably a similar term used in the US.

What I was describing is apparently called "dumpster diving" in the US. However, "going round the yards" does not specifically reference this, which I posted after seeing the bit about "buscar entre las cosas que tiran alguna verdurita, como tomate, lechuga, lo que sea que se encuentre para poder nosotros comer."

going to yard sales
I´ve heard it plenty. A yard sale is when people put out stuff in their yard or garage for sale, cheap, and people stop by to see if they can get a good deal. They are also called garage sales.
Example sentence:
"Me gusta ir a las yardas."
Discussion
Here's a couple more examples:
