Atalántate

Spanish to English Other General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters
Does anyone know what 'Atalánte' means in the poem below?

Si le miras a los ojos y te ves,
te ves comenzando a comprender,
a comprender
el sencillo, bello, pacífico y gratuito
placer de la fraternidad,
el mejor trampolín
de la alegría de vivir.
La verdadera riqueza es la compasión.
¡Atalántate atalantando a lo que también somos
y somos grandes simios!

Discussion

Cecilia Gowar Mar 17, 2020:
La RAE la recoge como verbo intransitivo poco usado.
I´ve never heard nor read this word. Not found in a good Spanish dictionary, however it seems to be used in Latin(not found either in a Latin dictionary). My analysis of the word is ¨a¨: Greek prefix meaning ¨abscence¨ or ¨a¨ afix meaning ¨derivation.¨ Thence ¨talánte/humor/disposición de ánimo¨ with ¨a¨ might be ¨muestra una buena disposición de ánimo¨ so in English ¨show a good disposition.¨

agree philgoddard : Though "please" is too bland. It means be enchanted/captivated.

Be still

This is a 'free' literary translation.

Verbo activo transitivo. Palabra empleada en la comunidad autónoma de Extremadura en España que quiere decir poner tranquilo, calmar y serenar a alguien o algo. En desuso significa en causar aturdimiento. Verbo neutro intransitivo que alude en convenir, pactar, admitir, gustar, agradar, satisfacer.
