Arabic term

أزهقت أنياب التقصير أرواح طفولتنا وشبابنا فيه

Arabic to English Other Government / Politics Political Analysis

All of the suggestions were excellent! Thank you all!!! :)
Alaa Zeineldine Oct 19, 2008:
Sentence begging to be rearranged The sentence would seem to make more sense if it read:
أزهقت أنياب التقصير فيه أرواح طفولتنا وشبابنا
Alaa Zeineldine Oct 19, 2008:
Alright. I have edited the field to match the context as much as possible. We can refine this later if needed.
Heather Shaw (asker) Oct 18, 2008:
Actually, I am waiting to hear back from the author about what he meant by القرار الصحي. The text is taken from the introduction of a book that deals with the author's opinion of policies and politics in the Arab world in general, and in KSA in particular. While the book does deal with some issues related to health care, I am not sure if that's what he was actually referring to in this sentence.
Alaa Zeineldine Oct 18, 2008:
Can you shed light on the subject? What is the field, besides "other"? e.g. do we actually interpret القرار الصحي as a reference to some healthcare policy decision? This could make a difference with interpreting the figurative meaning of your sentence.
Alaa Zeineldine Oct 18, 2008:
It is within KudoZ rules to request help with a metaphorical expression like this one. While the "term" is a sentence, it is not really a "regular" sentence.
Heather Shaw (asker) Oct 18, 2008:
The problem for me is the metaphorical phrasing and the pronoun at the end
The fangs of inadequacy brought about the downfall of the souls of our childhood and youth in (it)... (In the decision?)
When we say أزهقت الروح it is to destroy or to bring about the downfall of something without actually meaning the soul...
Here however, I assume that the soul or spirit of the childhood or youth is actually intended, but I'm not getting the full image of the intended meaning
Noha Kamal, PhD. Oct 18, 2008:
Heather, this is not a term. This is a regular sentence. Which part do you find particularly vague?

"whose shortcomings has brutally wasted many of our young generations"

I agree with Yasser's generic intepretation of طفولتنا وشبابنا, i.e. it is not specific to the author.
