it is a convention to use "small" k to abbreviate Kilo, and just W to abbreviate watt. Horse power is usually abbreviated in small letters hp (not HP or H/P).

: The valid abbr. (h.p. and HP) acc. to Oxford's. In Arabic it is قوة حصان، حصان بخاري. It's a measure of the power of an engine, etc.
