Arabic term

الحماية

Arabic to English Medical Medical: Health Care alternative/pre-modern health care
passage on pre-modern health cures Eastern Province saudi Arabia - was there a practice which involved heating the patient??

Discussion

AhmedAMS Aug 24, 2007:
So, (prevention/ protection) and (heating) turned to be interchangeable synonyms.
Yasser El Helw Aug 23, 2007:
Please ignore my answer, I hadn't seen your previous question! This "Hemaya" is very close to "Hammam" which is "washing" or "bathing" and I know that , in ancient times, bathing was not a spontaneous activity but rather a desperate medical prescription!
Fuad Yahya Aug 23, 2007:
Please provide context (the Arabic text in which you found the term). Thank you.
zkt Aug 23, 2007:
could you give us more context in arabic?? if heating is involved then it should be تحمية and not حماية

Prevention/ protection

We can avoid diseases, or help an individual by ***preventing*** getting the diseases. There is an entire science about that.
it's means taking prophylactic measures about the disease, like washing hands, avoiding contacts, using masks or other devices.

Thank you for reading "it means" on my 4th line.

الحماية means taking precautionary measures to avoid illness or diseases.

It also means: ***Defensibleness***: Capability of being defended;
Being defended means strenghten the body with vitamins, supplements, healthy food, sometimes vaccines.

As stated by Zkt, (التحمية) is more appropriate.
Note from asker:
the term appears in a list which includes cauterisation, cupping and herbal remedies
العلاج بالكي و الحماية و الحجامة This is part of the list. Hope it provides better context.
