Chinese term

炙手可熱

Chinese to English Other Idioms / Maxims / Sayings
公立職業訓練結業的學員,
往往成為企業界炙手可熱的人才,而私立訓練機構結業的學員,技術程度參差不齊

Please help me to think of a translation that does not depart from the meaning of the term, yet will not sound too big for graduates of vocational training institutions. Thanks in advance.

Discussion

Naikei Wong May 17, 2006:
事实上“炙手可熱”有点夸张。要中规中矩,又不偏离,那么干脆说well-sought after 或popular算了。

Yes, LH. Thank you for never failing to catch the misnomer for me & saving me from the "chopping board".
Last Hermit May 17, 2006:
应该说“热门人才”、“吃得香”。译文直接说“hot”也可以:They are hot in the industry.
Last Hermit May 17, 2006:
要想成为炙手可热的人,拿钱来买个官做。这样你才能有权有势,这样才能炙手可热。
Last Hermit May 17, 2006:
Another misnomer! 你懂修汽车,甚至还懂英语,懂电脑,再给你个翻译,可能真是most sought-after的人才,但可能始终是“俎上肉”,任人宰割。
Last Hermit May 17, 2006:
Another misnomer! 浣

popular demand/popular

How about "popular demand"? Simply using "popular" might work too.
