In my opinion, as I can remember, this idiom is to express the feeling that time has gone too fast.
It would be easier if related the idiom with the content of the essay, only then able to decide the appropriate translation.

It just occurred to me that if "中天" does not refer to the TV company, it might be from the saying "如日中天".
Anyway, it still falls into place of Jyuan's translation.
