The idea was that either hydrophobic molecules or molecule with conjugated hydrophobic tails would be released from a CD substrate based solely on association/dissociation kinetics, which is an entirely new paradigm in drug delivery, different from traditional mechanisms such as diffusion, polymer degradation, or external stimulus.
