Assigning a call reference number

The first thing a Master does when a new Call Request signal arrives is to assign a unique call reference number to that call. In an ATM switch this call reference number is unique within the switch control logic, but in the distributed switch that exists in the IP network instance there is no way of knowing this assigned call reference number is unique. With the IP network it is necessary to use the double [call reference number, master id] to have a unique call reference number. The master id can be any unique way of identifying a converter within an IP network. In ATM_TN, each converter has a unique IP address, so this is used.
