The term refers to subjects taught in school which require "more verbose" introductions: History, Literature, Languages, and so on, "unlike" the sciences: Math, Biology, Physics and so on.

verbal aptitude, verbal resoning, critical reading, reading/writing-intensive
Subjects are not classified this way in high school in the USA but these qualities are tested. In Hebrew it seems to be used for getting accomodations for students with learning disabilities for standardized (and perhaps other) tests.
