(de-)suckering

(De-)suckering e doar una din formele de "pruning", executată în mod specific la nivelul rădăcinii şi "below ground level".

Vines :
- Bordeaux style pruning (two canes, with no return)
- Removal of buds and elimination of the base bud during de-suckering

Next week the first pass through the vines with the crews will kick off. The de-suckering (removal of un-wanted shoots) will get our developing vine canopies started as we begin to fill the trellis wires.

A basal shoot, root sprout, adventitious shoot, water sprout or *sucker* is a shoot or cane which grows from a bud at the base of a tree or shrub or from its roots.

Suckering. — Suckering is the removal of the undesired shoots that originate on the trunk and below the ground. Neglect of suckering diminishes the vigor of the whole above-ground part of the vine. The suckers grow vigorously and appropriate food materials that should nourish the whole vine. Finally, the top is weakened so more and more of the growth goes into the suckers, and all the benefits of a properly trained vine are lost.

SUCKERiNG is the removal of shoots that have their origin below or near the surface of the ground. The shoots should be removed as thoroughly as possible the enlargement at the base being cut off in order to destroy the dormant basal buds.
