Spanish term

..empresas han intervenido en sociedades con partipaciones en activos hoteleros

Spanish to English Bus/Financial Finance (general) consultantcy
The whole sentence/paragraph is: Durante los ultimos anos, muchas empresas han intervenido de forma indirecta o indirecta en sociedades con partipaciones en activos hoteleros. Actualmente, se encuentran ante el reto de controlar sus activas hoteleras y maximizar su valor.

My try is: "In the past years, many companies have been involved directly or indirectly with companies holding shares in hotel assets" I just tried to distinguish between "sociedades" and "empresas", but I can't do a proper translation. Pls help with your suggestions.

In this context, "intervenir" means "invest" or "acquire interests". I'm not clear what the "muchas impresas" refers to, though - it sounds very vague. What comes before this?

....many businesses have been involved...with companies with investments in hotel assets

I think businees woul be a suitable synonym for company to avoid repeating it. In terms of participaciones, I think investments would be better and more general. I´m not sure you can have shares in assets. You can have shares in a company which indirectly includes its assets, but not directly shares in assets. "Certificate representing one unit of ownership in a corporation, mutual fund, or limited partnership" is the definition by investorwords for shares for example. I hope some of this helps!
