Correct. A video call is one more example of redundant nonsense. The core is how you perform as a translator, not how you perform on screen.

Looking at it the other way, it’s a great opportunity for the translator to make a personal connection. The past 30 years have taught me that’s by far the best form of marketing/way of getting work. You don’t have to be charismatic, just friendly and trustworthy and professional. It will at the very least help you jump the queue ahead of those who refuse to participate.
Plus you get an idea of whether the agency is friendly, trustworthy and professional. It’s a win-win for me.
