I feel for her Jun 3, 2009

In live TV broadcasts the producer can sometimes have a way of turning down the volume on the live speaker so the interpreter can be heard... but if as a result she can't hear the speaker we're all in trouble.

But you'd have to be pretty frustrated to do that.

Of course Jun 3, 2009

If the translator can't hear the live voice of the speake then he/she doesn't have any inputs (from original language) to be translated. this is quite frustrating.

You turn down the volume on the direct TV audio output channel, not the interpreter's audio input circuit. Looks like a sound technician's error to me.

Unfortunately, her audio output channel was working fine...

Sorry if I was unclear, technically speaking Jun 3, 2009

I probably mixed up my explanation, but all I wanted to say is that I've been on the receiving end of this kind of technical mishap, and in fact, have also interpreted for that particular speaker... whose French is hard enough to understand at full volume
