Problem numbering pages in a Word document

I've searched through the forums, but couldn't find an answer to what is probably a very straightforward question.

I need to add page numbers to a document, which has 2 cover pages (ie. I have to start numbering from '1' on what is actually page 3 of the document). Any tips? BTW, I use Word 2000.

You just have to put a break in the second page but a section break (insert->break->section break page->next page) and then numer pages on the third it will begin from page 1

"Insert" => Page numbers, then Format => begin from.

I don't have the English version at the moment, but these command names may not vary much.

I think you'll have to combine Marina's and Andrzej's suggestions.

After creating the section break, set the first section (pages 1 and 2) not to show page numbers, and in the second section go to Insert/Page numbers/Format and adjust the starting page number to 3.

Worked perfectly once I inserted a section break.
