RTF Preamble and Font Table function in WB

I would like to know what is the meaning of the RTF Preamble, including the Font Table in WorkBench TM.

One problem I am always faced with is exporting / importing memories back into other memories or into new ones.
My questions are:

1.- Can I safely delete the RTF preamble before importing to a new memory or to an existing one?
2.- What can be affected by deleting the RTF Preamble?
