Hi,
I know that receiving unwanted pornographic emails is part and parcel of using the net - especially if you have a hotmail account - and usually just delete them automatically without giving them a second thought.
However yesterday I received a particularly vile one that was obviously illegal (suffice to say it displayed naked pictures and mentioned the ages of the children concerned...) that I couldn't simply delete and forget about.
Thank you for your report to the Internet Watch Foundation.
The Internet content specified in your report has been assessed to be potentially illegal under the UK Protection Of Children Act. We have therefore notified details of the content and its origins to the National Criminal Intelligence Service (NCIS).
NCIS will disseminate these details to the relevant international law enforcement agency via Interpol. Please see http://www.iwf.org.uk/hotline/whathappens.htm for more information on how your report is processed.
Additionally if the country where the content is hosted operates a hotline, we will also notify them. More details are available at http://www.inhope.org
I thought I'd pass on this information, in case anyone else received similar mails that they didn’t know what to do about. Obviously I’m not referring to mails about Viagra or Lusty Linda in Lithuania (sorry Linda) here, just the occasional mail you receive that you suspect involves paedophile rings.

You did the very right thing to do, and I'm sure we're quite numerous that wouldn't have known whom to write.

You´ve done a great service!

Thanks, Jo! I have recently received spam similar to what you´re referring to in my Hotmail account, and other than report it as spam, I didn´t know what to do with them. You´ve done a great public service to all of us, because just as Claudia mentions, most of us wouldn´t have the faintest idea as to where to go to report such appalling mails.
Bill

Thank you for giving us some tips and the service you did to the community.
Personnally, I report every spam, to the webmaster of the server AND to the officiels departments when it comes from USA and also to several antispam organisation.
I get very often a personal answer from the webmasters to thank me. As for the others, I get an answer to confirm my message went there. Anyway, what counts it to report, this way it is possible to do something against it.
