I love working at home Oct 24, 2009

I looked over the options and decided that “nothing at all” was the best answer for me.

I did have some exasperating email/internet problems this past summer, but a simple change of service providers solved that one tout suite. I don’t use any complicated software or hardware, so I don’t have many computer problems. Isolation isn’t an issue either, because I go to some of my direct clients’ premises to work (so I see lots of people) and I have a good relationship with my

I don’t use any complicated software or hardware, so I don’t have many computer problems. Isolation isn’t an issue either, because I go to some of my direct clients’ premises to work (so I see lots of people) and I have a good relationship with my neighbors, who I’ll stop and chat with while out doing errands. In that regard, I really have the best of both worlds.

With all 3 kids in school and the Mrs. working, there are also very few family interruptions. I’m not quite sure what lack of resources refers to, but I make do with my small home office and can find all the informational resources I need on the internet.

I love working at home.

We have the same problems as every other "normal" businesses. If it is not your family "interrupting" you, its your work collegues.

Best thing I did!!

I hated working at home! Oct 24, 2009

And I only realised it when I decided to start what's reffered to as 'co-working' in an office.

I realised that I hated isolation and that I constantly felt "oh, I should vacuum the flat!", "what's for dinner today?" etc.

But MOST of all, I hated this lack of separation between private life and work. I started at around 8.30 am, to interrupt at about 4 pm, and then keep on working until I had to to to bed.

Now I have two girls to chat with and I feel much better than before.

Computer problems in general - drive me mad at home, at the office, just about anywhere!! Oct 24, 2009

I use the computer at home, in various offices and other places. On the whole, they are wonderful, BUT!!!!

Other aspects of working at home can be mildly annoying, but the computer problems are the biggest bug-bear....she types, sitting at her computer!!!!!! Can't even moan about them without one

Nothing, espec. with both broadband and mobile Internet Oct 24, 2009

However, if you hire colleagues and turn one of your homes into the office, sometimes you have to rethink the question .

I love working at home Oct 24, 2009

When I am free, I can help out with household chores. But it gives others, including my wife an impression that I sit idle at home!

People thinking I'm eternally free since I'm at home Oct 24, 2009

Does this happen to anyone else? Friends and acquaintances don't think you're "really" working since you're at home, so they call you during work hours for lengthy chats, wonder why you're not free for lunch every day, and say how lucky you are that you're at home all day long.

Now, I LOVE working at home and having the flexibility of being my own boss, but as a mother, when my daughter is at school I really AM working and need to squeeze the most from that time so I preferably won'

Nothing at all Oct 24, 2009

When I see the horrible traffic that "normal" people have to go through every day in my city, smell high amounts of smog, hear of (and had an experience with) mean bosses, know of many friends who are exploited, who are forced to work extra hours and who suffer from stress, and of couples who just come back exhausted from work and never have the time to play with their children... I just love working from home!

I just love working from home!

After all these, nothing can be that bad, that would drive me really mad.

Issues such as computer problems, family interruptions, etc. are too insignificant compared to the advantages I have as a freelancer working from home; can't be really mad at them.

Working at home is heaven on earth Oct 24, 2009

I can set my own hours, wear whatever clothes I want, and not have to deal with other people all the time (not that I don't like people, but I do tend to be somewhat of a loner!). I have never had a computer problem again since I switched to Mac, so that's not an issue, either.

Power outages Oct 24, 2009

Power outages from our state monopoly public utility. Because of the El Niño phenomenon, we are going through a drought this year, with hydroelectric output down.

Same here!

In fact I think it's more difficult to work at home, or at least to start working at home, since it takes much more self discipline than when you simply come to an office and work there.
