I use SDL Trados and I did not use any other tool, but I hope to. I wish you tell me about the tools you use. Thanks

I bought Déjà Vu X3 during my translator studies and have never felt the need to look elsewhere!

I dislike CAT tools (and all the discount rates). Fortunately I’m in a stage of my career when I can afford to pick and choose what work I do. What’s more, as I am old my brain needs exercise. I used Trados the last years I worked in-house and it felt entirely robotic. I particularly hated all the time wasted aligning and re-aligning documents. To date I have survived without one (that’s not entirely true as I worked for a few years with XTM for one of my regular customers until they had a very heavy TM and moved to a cheaper translator) and I have managed to build a strong client base. My approach to translation is that of a “handicraft” rather than an “industrial process”. I’m more concerned with quality and flow than with consistency, productivity and rapidity. Anyway, most of the texts I translate are creative and contain almost no repetitions, with one exception: my longest-standing customer tends to have extremely repetitive texts, but nothing that the Word search function can’t solve easily. I’ll stop translating and retire for good the day a CAT tool can translate creatively. ▲ Collapse

Hahaha, in Tilburg (Netherlands) we have a different interpretation of BAT: https://www.bat.nl
BTW: Working with a CAT tool also requires brain activity  .

That's because CafeTran is a superior kind of CAT tool. We don't mix with the lower classes.

After trying SDLX, Trados and MemoQ, I'm in love with Memsource. Absolutely easy to use, has all the functionalities that you need, and free!

I prefer to rely on what I've gone out of my way to store in the memory chunks of my brain, including as much as I can of my source languages. When one gets older, it's very important to go out of your way to keep the brain muscle limber, anyway. That way it's more likely that you will be able to deal adequately, and even, in some cases, more than adequately, with just about everything that life throws into your path, not just translation work.
