I don’t care what the weather is outside when I’m working. The ideal temperature for me is between 17 and 25 degrees Celsius. If outside is too hot or too cold, I’ll turn the AC on…

So I don't really care about the weather although I rather have the sun shining into my office and the sea in blue than the rain pouring down (the latter is the case today).

Any weather will do. I'm equipped for all-weather translation performance. +

I do worry a bit if there's thunder and lightning in case I lose my internet connection or my computer blows up. That used to be a serious problem when (a long time ago now) I lived in my beautiful country abode outside Fiesole, where there was no protection from lightning - usually in late August. The lady in the workshop came to recognise me as I came through the door carrying the machine from the car. "Fulminato?" "Sì, fulminato ancora una volta."

Comfort for some comes at the expense of the life on this planet.

It’s time we become more comfortable with discomfort. Our survival may depend on it.

If it's sunny outside, then I am tempted to take a walk, enjoy the sunshine. But as a professional, I always manage to restrain myself.

So you go through a British winter without turning the heating on?

That’s why I don’t have a car and opt for public transport or walking instead...

I'm working on that, as we speak.

Neither too hot nor too cold. Jan 1

I live near Barcelona, in Spain, and I don't have either air conditioning or central heating. I have a very effective wood pellet stove for the winter and I open the windows in the summer. I also have an electric fan.

Like Tom in London, I used to be worried about power cuts and losing my internet connection due to thunderstorms or people who come to the area at the weekend and during holidays, but I think things have improved because that hasn't happened for a few years.

I got into the habit of sending myself a copy of my work to my gmail account whenever I stopped work, in case I woke up to find that my computer had blown up, there was a power cut or I had lost my internet connection!

Here comes the rain again... Jan 2

In Germany, it is raining 90% of the time. "Shietwetter", as they say in Hamburg. Sooo, a cup of tea (Darjeeling or Assam), a nice background music (smooth jazz or instrumental, so that I do not start translating the songs in my head), and off we go with translation!

I don't really care about the weather while I'm working, although in general I prefer it to be warm enough to not need to wrap myself up in a blanket like now. I just like it to not rain when it's time to take the dog out for his walk or play in the park. This morning it was raining too hard for anything but a "quick round the block and please empty your bowels before we get home".

Oksana Weiss wrote:

I only did O level German, but I love how very apt German always sounds. Shietwetter sounds just like the weather we're having here right now combined with the above-mentioned operation involving the dog as dictated by the sh1tty wetter!

This reminds me of a song by an old underrated band called Chrome, which went something like "A cold, clammy bombing will shit on your town"
