I probably work about 40 hours a week (I've never timed it), but it's not distributed tidily into a certain number of work days. Sometimes it's 40 hours split over 7 days, and sometimes it's crammed into three or four days.

I'm trying to work 'office hours' - 8 hours a day, 5 days per week.
Somehow I always end up with lots of work by the end of the week (either because I'm a lousy planner, or had some kind of setback, or something unexpected happened, or I just didn't work hard enough that week) so unfortunately I mostly work 6 days a week.
I want my Sundays off, though, so if I have work to do on a Sunday, that's a sure sign I'm trying to do too much in too little time.

Balancing work and private life gets really hard sometimes....

I think it's Murphy's law or some amendment to it. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one it happens to.

I work nearly every day of the week, but that's because I have to look after my daughter after school and cannot cram in a whole day's work before she comes home, so there is unfortunately no choice but to catch up at weekends and in the evenings when my husband is around to help with childcare. I do, however, try very hard to keep any work to be done at weekends to a minimum and do it on a Sunday evening when kids (and often husband too!) are already in bed (because that's when the house is fin... Oh yeah! I don't get up at 6.00 am, I work till 6 or 7 may be. Being sticked in fixed working hrs is so boring.
But 'nothing to do' during no-events time AND being so busy when life calls incites the moody person in me.

how can we work eight days a week? if 'normal' working-hour is eight hours a day, then the total would be forty hours in a week. if more than that, then you're basically working eight days, or more, a week...

I might have 50-hour 7-day weeks and/or fortnights without days off. It's a mix of translating and interpreting.
I watch my total annual load. It does not exceed 9 months/year and as long as I have 1 big (3 weeks) and 2 small (1 week) real vacations a year (meaning being unavailable and going out of town/country without a laptop), plus enough 2-3-day long full breaks and a few lazy weeks at home spread over the year, I'm happy.
