Getting started with subtitling

I wonder how to get started with subtitling, or rather get back to it in a more professional way? I used to translate subtitles for TEDTalks, but it was a long time ago, I think ten or so, as I found out about TED during my translation internship in 2012. I translated a couple of talks and abandoned subtitling soon after getting a full-time job, which had nothing to do with subtitling. So far, I reactivated my TED Translator account and started translating my first subtitles after a break. What else could I do to take my subtitling skills to a new level? ▲ Collapse

Unless TEDTalks already applied similar guidelines, in which case it's probably not going to add much to your skills. I did have to work with stricter guidelines than Netflix's, with 80+ pages detailing everything and every exceptions that could possibly happen. But I'm not allowed to share any part of it, unfortunately.
