I bought it for someone else, but I'd have gladly commandeered it if I knew I could run all the pirate stuff I'm currently using on my Windows 10 PC on the Mac Mini without having to go through all that technical tweaking (running parallels etc.)

You can't run pirate stuff on the MacOS.

Which is why you don't need antivirus software on the MacOS.

Nor do you need a "computer guy" who charges you a lot of money to come and "fix" your PC every time something goes wrong with it. With the MacOS you can say goodbye to your "computer technician."

( I once chatted to one of these guys. He told me he intentionally "seeds" a bug into the computers he "repairs", designed to set itself off on a certain date which means the client will call him to come in because "there's something wrong with the computer".)

You may not be aware of it, but tax authorities do read these forums. Since these forums are for professional translators, I assumed you were purchasing the computer for work purposes.

Lol, of course they don't. They're too short-staffed. Plus they couldn't organise a drinking event in a brewery. Fact.

But if the Turkish tax people had enough English to appreciate your posts on these forums, we'd probably have entered the EU decades ago, and I'd probably be subject to a completely different tax regime... Thanks for the heads up anyways!

Maybe it's Turkey's tax regime that prevents it from joining the EU....

32 inch monitor or 27 inch monitor? Jun 22, 2023

I wonder if anyone has used 32-inch 4k monitor for translation work and find it too large or just on the sweet spot? Or would 27-inch, also 4k, and if necessary, two of these side by side, would prove a better solution?

I use a 32-inch 4k monitor here (Samsung S32R75) and find it just about right.
I wouldn't like to go smaller.

Have you tried 27-inch 4k for comparison? Jun 23, 2023

No, I get eyestrain even on this 32", so I wouldn't be prepared to go down to 27-28" at the same resolution.
I have a few 24" knocking about, and find them too small, naturally.

Literally Jun 23, 2023

I literally wouldn't know what to advise but I can literally tell you what I use - and that I'm happy with:

MAC MINI- APPLE M1 CHIP - 16GB RAM - 256GB SSD
Apple wired keyboard (Italian) and wired Magic Mouse (old version, which I prefer)
BenQ GW2760HS Full HD LED VA Panel 27-Inch Widescreen Multimedia Monitor
