For those who use English > German dictionaries:
I would like to hear your opinion/comments on general English > German dictionaries (Collins, Oxford Duden, Langenscheidt...). I am about to buy one but can\'t decide which one to get.

For a truly comprehensive general dictionary, it\'s hard to beat Langenscheidts Enzyklopädisches Wörterbuch (Der Große Muret-Sanders). The complete set (G>E, E>G) takes up 4 large volumes. Drawback: it\'s very expensive (if I recall correctly, each volume ran around DM 380 or so last year).
I also really like Collins (which is also available on CD). While it is not as comprehensive as Muret-Sanders, it does have some \"330,000 entries and more than 500,000 translations\" ... Pons/Collins is my favorite give the old cost/benefit ratio. If I\'m looking for a general language term, chances are very, very good indeed that I\'ll find an acccurate translation in my Pons/Collins.
I use specialized dictionaries for specialist terminology.

...I agree with Ulrike: yes, Muret-Sanders is very helpful (although it doesn\'t give you the very latest in new word creations...) and yes, it\'s rather pricey - but definitely worth it.
Another interesting one is \"PONS Bildwörterbuch\" (ISBN 3-12-517830-4) that contains pictures with terms for a variety of general subjects. Helpful if you know what you\'re looking for, but don\'t know what it\'s called in either language...
