The same problem in Latvia now. This "Earl Mark" sent me from Excel Translations company and it seemed that the company is a big one. Therefore it seemed strange that an employee uses gmail and the offered price per source word was too high to be true. Hi all, today I've got the same message as many of you earlier. I think it is not the only case of fraud. And that's why it is very important to pay attention to the facts: 1. unreasonable high rates (0,19 USD) along with 2. lack of interest in experience, expertise, etc. (it was me who asked him about the fields they needed a translator specializing in, so it was clear that his interest laid in another area) 3. need of buying anything before starting the cooperati... He only mentioned the name of the company without a link to the web-site) 5. discordance of the contact information (when I found the web-site of the company mentioned by him, I looked through all the e-mails of the company's staff and found out that all of them had common domain in their mail: [email protected], [email protected], that had the name of the company in it; to the contrary, the messenger had registered in gmail.com) 6. and of course the topics in forums concerning the subject (I found the forum topic in ProZ.com via Google.com using his e-mail). I wish luck to every of you and I hope that my tips would be helpful to some translators. ▲ Collapse | |

Serbian, too... | Sep 17, 2009 |
Same here, Earl Mark wanted a Serbian translator in this particular case. After I had said that I owned a copy of SYSTRAN (which I don't ), he just briefly replied that I should notify him when I could start taking assignments. Hi all, I also received this message and reported it to the translation agency he claims to be working for. I found his email untrustwordy and the addresse he uses. But I do think we should report it to Systran as well and, if someone else has another idea to ban this person, do tell us. Thank you for the reactivity and I hope there aren't translators who've been fooled by this guy. Regards, Ramona Delcea | | | Alyona17 United States Local time: 10:47 English to Russian + ...
